Turn a giant and complicated task into a bunch of smaller and more easily managed tasks. Here are some reasons why this works. A small step towards an overall project is faster to complete and easier to stay focused on. When you successfully finish a small goal, you feel good about yourself and it’s easier to tackle the next goal. Smaller steps, or goals, are a lot less intimidating and it’s much easier to finish them.
Not everyone has the same internal clock, so not everyone should work at a job that has the same hours. You can have one type of natural rhythm, while others are different. Mornings are perfect for some people, but not others. Evenings is a much better time for lots of people. Focusing is really important for doing your best work, so that is how your work day should be scheduled. Your productivity will most likely go down, when you force yourself to work against your natural rhythm.
Put the tasks you want to accomplish on a time line schedule for the day and then stay on it. Plot out what time of day you want to start working, what time of day you are going to stop working, when you are going to take your lunch, etc. Put on your schedule what time you need to stop work and start dinner, when you want to take a break and maybe read for an hour, and other blocks of time you need to set aside. Eventually these sorts of things will start to become a habit and you won’t have to think so hard about them. When you’re working hard, but you see that in just a few minutes it will be time to stop and take a 15-minute walk, you will be able to stay focused on what you are doing.
